Dr. Laura Carinci, MD
Instructor and Medical Physician

Dr. Laura Carinci has been a practicing physician for 29 years in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. After graduating from Adelphi University in 1982 with a B.S. degree in Biology, she went on to Albany Medical College where she received her medical degree in 1986. Residency training began at the then Nassau County Medical Center, East Meadow, N.Y., and was completed at Beth Israel Medical Center, N.Y. in 1990. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. From 1990 until 2002, Dr. Carinci was in private practice, providing comprehensive services in both obstetrics and gynecology in Rockville Centre, N.Y.  In 2002, Dr. Carinci joined the staff at South Nassau Primary Care to practice office gynecology.

Autism became part of life after her second son was discovered to be affected to a moderate to severe degree in 1996. The decision to no longer practice obstetrics was due to the need to care for her son and to devote her time to starting a school. She was one of the founders of Ascent: A School for Individuals with Autism, now located in Deer Park, Long Island. Dr. Carinci served on the Board of Directors of The Ascent School from July 1998 to March 2006. She was honored for outstanding service on the Board at the fundraising gala in June 2000. The personal struggles she encountered in advocating for her son and in founding the school changed her life. Lobbying government officials and fundraising for the school became acquired skills. Advocating for the disabled and helping the families, often women, on how to secure services for their disabled children became a passion. As a result, she discovered she had developed an ability to motivate and inspire both the professionals she encountered to be more engaged and her patients to take better care of themselves.

Having an office practice allowed her to pursue other interests as well. In 2005, she completed her certification with The North American Menopause Society to become a certified menopause practitioner. In addition, her desire to support women in her practice led her to complete Beth Israel's Center for Health and Healing Certificate Program in Integrative Medicine from September 2012 to June 2013.

Dr. Carinci was featured in a Prevention Magazine article entitled "I Look My Best Ever Now" in February, 2012.
